Consumers can celebrate National Meatball Day Swedish style with a benefit dinner for the Swedish American Children’s Choir from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, March 11, at Bethany Lutheran Church, 8 S Lincoln Street in Batavia.
The dinner will feature Swedish meatballs and gravy, mashed potatoes, vegetables, lingonberries, Swedish rye bread and Swedish desserts. New this year is a vegetarian option of vegetable balls in place of meat.
A chef from Gothenburg, Sweden will prepare the meal with his authentic recipes from Sweden.
Featured will be Swedish and American baked goods for sale. In addition, there will be special guest entertainment. Swedish Folk, a local Scandinavian folk band will play during dinner and a magician and balloon artist will entertain as well. All proceeds from the event will be a benefit for the choir performance tour fund.
The choir, in its 24th year, is the largest of its kind in the Midwest and comprised of children ages 4-17 from the Fox Valley and surrounding suburbs. They present performances of Swedish songs and Scandinavian dances throughout the area and beyond.
Dinner tickets are by reservation only and carry-out orders are available.
Tickets are $15 for adults, $7 for children 3-10 years old and under 3ages three are admitted for free. Call the choir office 630-414-9700 for reservations.
