City of Aurora’s annual Gifts from Home
The City of Aurora’s annual Gifts from Home program offers our hardworking active members of the military a reminder from their hometown during the holidays. Gifts from Home thanks Aurora residents who are actively serving in the military, at home or abroad, with a gift box that includes mixed nuts, Aurora memorabilia and a card during the holiday season. To register an active member of the military, visit www.aurora-il.org/GiftsFromHome or send the following information to MyAurora@aurora-il.org: 1) Active military member’s name and rank. 2) Complete military address. 3) Branch of service and current station. 4) Home address in Aurora. 5) Name, relationship, and contact information of person submitting. To ensure timely delivery for the holidays, the deadline to submit information is Friday, Nov. 15.

Veterans Day Luncheon
This annual beloved Veterans Day celebration will take place at Prisco Community Center, 150 W. Illinois Avenue, and is free for veterans. A catered turkey dinner will be served. The luncheon fee for non-veterans is $7 per resident and $11 per non-resident.

First Fridays Downtown Aurora
First Fridays is a night of art, fun, music, dance, and community, at businesses and venues in downtown Aurora on the first Friday evening of the month. First Fridays in Downtown Aurora invites the community to enjoy events to include art, music, food, and theater.

ACC to present two plays
Aurora Central Catholic (ACC) High School will perform Shakespeare plays at the school, 1233 N. Edgelawn Drive. At the school, will be Shakespeare’s “The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark,” at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Nov. 1-2 and at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Nov. 15-16, “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead.” Tickets are $10 for one show or $15 for both.

Wayside Cross Ministries – Hope Chest Grand Reopening
The Hope Chest store will hold a grand re-opening with a huge sale, giveaways, kids’ activities and refreshments. Parking is free. Hope Chest resale store, 34 N. Lincoln Avenue is re-opening with a revamped sales floor, expanded merchandise and community events. The store, an operation of Wayside Cross Ministries in Aurora, recently reorganized and transformed its displays of furniture, glassware, books, clothing.

Aurora Veterans Day Parade
The city government of Aurora will recognize the dedication of military service men and women who have served our country at the annual Veterans Day Parade and Ceremony. The parade will step off at the corner of Benton and Broadway at 10:15 a.m. and end at the G.A.R. Memorial Hall, where the “Honoring All Who Served” ceremony will take place. The ceremony will include a military rifle salute by veteran organizations at 11 a.m., the exact time the armistice was signed that ended WWI.

Kindermusik Classes
The Village of Montgomery is a partner with Paramount School of the Arts in Aurora to offer free Kindermusik demo classes. Naperville Healing Field
Naperville Park District, in collaboration with the Naperville Healing Field Committee, will be host to the community’s fourth Healing Field of Honor at Rotary Hill, at 443 Aurora Avenue. There will be 2,019 American flags on Rotary Hill during this event which creates a stunning tribute to our military and their families and raises money through Operation Support Our Troops-America. 22nd annual Naperville Noon Lions 5K Turkey Trot
The Naperville Noon Lions will be host to its 22nd annual Turkey Trot at Naperville Central High School, 440 Aurora Avenue. Runners, walkers, running strollers, and special needs walkers/runners are welcome. Complimentary breakfast for all registered runners will follow the run. All proceeds will help benefit the Lions programs for individuals with vision and hearing disabilities in the Naperville/Aurora area who cannot afford the type of service.

Remembering Our Veterans
Visitors can discover the history of Oswego’s fighting men and women through an extensive display of rarely-seen military artifacts selected from the Museum’s permanent collection, including items used during the Civil War, World Wars I and II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, Iraq, and Afghanistan. A Wall of Honor will feature photographs of more than 200 Army, Navy, Marines, and Air Force personnel from the Oswego area and a special exhibit honors those military personnel with direct Oswego connections who were killed in action from the Civil War through Vietnam. Special daily events to include member appreciation, flag retirement, and postcards for veterans during this exhibit. All ages are welcome at this free event! Oswegoland Heritage Association is host in partnership with the Oswegoland Park District. Little White School Museum, 72 Polk Street.

Veterans Day Dinner
A Veterans Day Dinner will be held at the Plano American Legion Post 395 with guest speaker Richard Randall, U.S. Air Force veteran from 1964-1968, and 50 years of public service. The menu is roast pork loin; stuffed chicken breast with cranberry dressing; seasoned mashed potatoes, green beans with sliced almonds, dinner rolls, and coffee. Cost is $15 per person. All veterans or active military personnel will eat for free. Seniors 60 and older are $12. Children eight and younger are $5. The Yorkville American Legion Post 489 and the Veterans Outreach for Kendall County invite everyone to honor our Nation and all of the veterans who have served.
