Neighborhood Festival Funding Grant
The city government of Aurora offers financial assistance to organizations planning neighborhood events in 2020. Funding, which is limited to $1,500 per applicant, is made available to assist groups will be host to public events designed to educate, benefit, organize and/or connect Aurora residents. The deadline to apply is December 12, for events planned for January 1 through June 30, 2020. The deadline for events taking place from July 1 through December 31, 2020 is March 1, 2020.

The City of Aurora’s annual Gifts thanks Aurora residents who are actively serving in the military, at home or abroad, with a gift box that includes mixed nuts, Aurora memorabilia and a card during the holiday season. The Little Mermaid
Ariel and her aquatic friends under the sea will be in The Little Mermaid at Rosary High School, 901 N. Edgelawn Drive. Show dates are Thursday, Nov. 7, at 6 p.m.; Friday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 9 at 7 p.m., and Sunday, Nov. 10 at 2 p.m.. Aurora Veterans Day Parade
The parade will step off at the corner of Benton and Broadway at 10:15 a.m. and end at the G.A.R. Memorial Hall, where the “Honoring All Who Served” ceremony will take place. The ceremony will include a military rifle salute by veterans organizations at 11 a.m., the exact time the armistice was signed that ended WWI.

Ukulele Strummer of Aurora
The Ukulele Strummers of Aurora will meet at Ballydoyle, 28 West New York Street. The group meets monthly to play the happy little instrument in an informal setting. Everyone is welcome. Aurora Central Catholic High School will present a Shakespeare focus at the school, 1233 N. Edgelawn Drive. Scheduled at the school is “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead,”. The public is invited. Empathy.,” the event will be hosted by Interfaith Aurora, an ecumenical group, and The Orchard Community, a group of artists, innovators and thinkers. A reception will conclude the celebration. Veterans Day Dinner
A Veterans Day dinner will be held at the Plano American Legion Post 395 with guest speaker Richard Randall, U.S. Air Force veteran from 1964-1968, and 50 years of public service. The menu is roast pork loin; stuffed chicken breast with cranberry dressing; seasoned mashed potatoes, green beans with sliced almonds, dinner rolls, and coffee. Cost is $15 per person. All veterans or active military personnel will eat for free. Seniors 60 and older are $12. Children eight and younger are $5. Veterans Day Commemoration
Participants can spend an evening at the First Division Museum and meet community veteran groups that embody the spirit of Veterans Day by giving back to those who served. There will be a Veterans Day Remembrance and Quilt Ceremony at 5 p.m. and Trickster Art Gallery Native Veteran Drum Circle and Dance at 6:30 p.m.; Parking at Cantigny is free all day on Veterans Day. The First Division Museum, normally closed on Mondays, will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m..

The Chapel on the Green will be open for viewing of memorabilia, and after the speakers there will be refreshments and another opportunity to view the items on display.
