Dreams came true for two millennial Latinos when they cut the ribbons for their new businesses in Aurora.

Edwin Arroyo was brought to tears when he spoke during the ribbon-cutting ceremony for his new barbershop on Aurora’s West Side.

The Zero Barbershop, 620 West Park Avenue, is a hard-earned accomplishment for the licensed barber and father of four. He explained the unique business name is in tribute to the zero setting on hair clippers, which is the foundation for any haircut. His goal is to provide a strong foundation for his family and community.

Arroyo was joined by his wife, Elvira, children, other family members, clients, and representatives from the Aurora Puerto Rican Cultural Council for the grand opening celebration.

Augustito Allen was joined by his girlfriend, Nancy, other family members and childhood friends as he celebrated the grand opening of Affordable Mattress on Aurora’s East Side.

At 1598 N. Farnsworth Avenue, the Company specializes in providing quality bedding at affordable pricing for the community. It is Allen’s first brick-and-mortar. He owns a transportation company.

Aurora deputy mayor Guillermo Trujillo, the first Latino to serve as deputy mayor of Aurora, and representatives from the Aurora Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, joined the entrepreneurs to celebrate the milestones.

Aurora already has held 10 ribbon-cutting ceremonies this year, including six new black-owned businesses last month and the new Texas Roadhouse in Aurora last week.
