New NASCAR race to open the season

NASCAR will be back this year with a new race. The Busch Light Clash will be held in the Los Angeles Coliseum at 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 6 on Fox. The race will be called on Fox by Tony Stewart, Clint Boyer, and Mike Joy, from the Fox Sports booth.

Next on the schedule will be in Daytona Beach, Fla., February 17-20. Thursday, Feb. 17 will be the two duels at Daytona, at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. on FS1. The Xfinity Series will start its season at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19 on FS1. The Daytona 500 will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 20 on Fox.

Other news:

• Chase Elliott won the NMPA (National Motorsports Press Association) Most Popular Driver Award. It was his fourth Most Popular Driver Award for the Cup Series and he won two from when he was racing in the Xfinity Series.

• Three racers were inducted into the 2021 NASCAR Hall of Fame: Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Mike Stefanik, and Red Farmer.

• Ryan Newman, who finished 28th overall in the Cup Series, has no plans to race in NASCAR after losing his ride with Roush Fenway Racing. He still plans to race, but in grass roots racing, similar to Kyle Larsen does in his spare time.

• Brad Keselowski is a partner with Roush Fenway Racing and has started a new team, RFK (Roush Fenway Keselowski) Racing. He will race the No. 6 car which was Newman’s number.
