On Aurora Navy League and JROTC message

We (Aurora Navy League Council 247) received this very nice message from Master Sergeant Matthew Pierzchala of the West Aurora High School JROTC. It is heartwarming to see such appreciation for the support we give to them. Here’s the message to which he refers, our April 18 meeting:

Len Wass,
Aurora Navy League Council 247

Len,

West High JROTC will be holding our end of year ceremony that evening; regrettably, we will be unable to attend.

Please pass on our sincere appreciation for the tremendous support of the Navy League to our program and other JROTC programs in the area!

While we are still recovering the number of cadets enrolled in JROTC since COVID, we still had a successful year. We met or exceeded all of our Corps goals this year, including amassing over 2,000 community service hours and conducting over 10 formal color guards in support of local events/businesses. We were able to conduct three times the number of Curriculum-related field trips that fortified the leadership and military science lessons they have learned this year….and, the cherry on top, West’s drillers are once again Air Force national champs!

Several of our graduating seniors are eyeing enlisting in the military and/or entering a commissioning track (primarily through ROTC at a college or university).

Looking ahead, we are looking forward to increasing the number of cadets, as well as increasing our engagement with and in the community—(as) partner with other local organizations, to make a greater impact, and, of course, repeating as national champs!

Thanks again for all the Navy League does. We look forward to being able to attend the next dinner meeting.

Respectfully,

Matthew Pierzchala, West Aurora High School JROTC
