On teachers, pets, music, Batavia honors

Here are some important notes and thoughts:
• In our back-to-school mindset, it is refreshing to know that there are teachers who put innovation and thinking outside the usual as a part of their calling, not just their jobs. Teachers play important roles.
• The Aurora Animal Care and Control (AACC) and the Humane Society of Aurora will work with NBC and Telemundo television stations Saturday to find homes for pets. The “Clear the Shelters” event will be from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday at 600 S. River Street.

• The announcement of the dog parade in Aurora September 9 can be seen by clicking here.
• Many of the photos in The Voice issues can be found on our website, thevoice.us, in videos in which Jason Crane has taken the lead to help The Voice have more than one dimension in its communication business with residents.
• Of interest this Summer are ageless and still vivacious, Gladys Knight, and the longstanding O’Jays (Love Train), Saturday evening at the Thomas J. Weisner RiverEdge across from the Metra station on Broadway. Then September 8 the Broadway Musical Series will resume at the Paramount Theatre in Aurora with Legally Blonde.
• Batavia High School will induct eight members into its fourth annual Hall of Honor Thursday, Sept. 20. They are: Samira Ahmed, Class of 1989; Eldon Frydendall, 1956; Matt Holm, 1987; Sharron Moran Jauregui, 1960; Michael Spillane, 1986; Max Striedl, 1954; School District 101 staff member, Sue Bauer; and School District 101 friend, Ronald E. Karabowicz.
• Holm is the defensive coordinator of the Batavia High School football team. Click here to see article. Karabowicz is involved with Fox Valley and Batavia Robotics. Meetings for youth will be 7 p.m. Friday; 1 p.m. Saturday, and 3 p.m. Sunday at Rotolo Middle School in Batavia. Competition will be held through February 2019.
