Oswego Police arrested a 15-year-old male juvenile for possession of a loaded firearm at Oswego East High School

Oswego Police arrested a 15-year-old male juvenile Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2023, for possession of a loaded firearm at Oswego East High School, 1525 Harvey Road, Oswego.

At approximately 10 a.m., Oswego Police were notified by school staff members that a student had turned over a backpack containing a firearm. The backpack was reported to have been left with a classmate by a male student. The backpack was opened and upon seeing the firearm, students brought it to the office, where it was turned over to the Oswego Police school resource officer. Police immediately began an investigation and determined there was no intention to harm students or staff members. The owner of the backpack, a 15-year-old male student, was taken into custody and multiple charges arising from having the concealed loaded firearm on school grounds were approved by the Kendall County State’s Attorney’s Office: Three felony counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, one felony count of unlawful use of a weapon, and one misdemeanor count of unauthorized storage/possession of a weapon. The juvenile was brought to the Oswego Police Department where he was processed and transported to the Kane County Juvenile Justice Center to await a hearing.
