Our Constitution

Through history, most governments are formed by force
Or accident—and this has been the normal course,
Until, in 1787, came a voice
Insisting it be made through reflection and choice.
Not only was this unheard of, but viewed with doubt—
In governing, the common citizen was out.

Our Constitution brought new concepts into play;
But many can’t conceive it can be done this way.
Our president, for instance…with so short a term,
Too short a span to have him make his presence firm.
And giving powers to each state for all to see,
A vast republic inside a democracy.

Our Constitution was conceived with Liberty
A mandated concept, and followed totally.
Through all comparisons which you desire to draw
With all the other man-made instruments of law,
Will find it is unique, and stands above them all,
The dignity of Man its stated succinct call.

The proof of this is there, if one desires to look;
You are the master of your fate—it’s in the book.
And you can start with this—for here you have a voice;
Plus this most salient asset—your freedom of choice!
Thus private industry is given a free rein,
Which you can latch onto and use for personal gain.

The strength our Constitution has is also seen
In all the added edicts made, and what they mean.
The standard of enlightenment has not been changed,
Despite the march of time, and how the perils ranged.
America, the beautiful! In many ways.
Our Constitution at its core, a gem to praise!
