Positive vibes: Shredding collection, early voting begins

Negative and positive are more than components of a focus on electricity and electrical charges.

Negativity and bad news may be more enticing and stimulating to some individuals. Good news can be glossed over as moderately boring. Yet, positive thoughts and good news keep society moving in a salutary direction. Positive thoughts can prevent sickness and keep bodies well to function at higher levels.

Beneficial, yet not thrilling, and seemingly necessary to keeping positive attitudes:

• Recycling, recovery, shredding;

• Clearing clutter and making room;

• Clearing thoughts for new thoughts.

The connection here is that recently our communities have returned to shredding paper, understanding the need for recycling, and thinking new thoughts.

Saturday in Aurora, aldermen held a paper shredding event at Fire Station No. 8 on the far East Side. For the first time in the 10th annual event, 18-wheel trucks were filled close to 25,000 pounds of shredded paper. Relief in many ways to starting over, shredding clutter, and unnecessary collection.

More reduction in excess will continue Saturday, Oct. 3 when 84th District State representative Stephanie Kifowit will be host to an annual Recycle and Shred Day from 9 a.m. to noon at her district office, 1677 Montgomery Road in Aurora, east of Montgomery. Assisting will be IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers) Local 461 in Aurora

Prior to the October 3 event will be the city government of Aurora free Electronic Recycling Day, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26 in the downtown Aurora parking lot adjacent to the Casino at 201 N. River Street for Aurora residents only. Each vehicle is limited to two screens and only household items.

• Election season is upon us for real. The first day for in-person early voting in the State starts Thursday, Sept. 24 at county clerks’ offices and other limited sites. Kane County Clerk’s offices are in Geneva and Aurora; in Wheaton in DuPage County; in Yorkville in Kendall County; and in Joliet in Will County. Early voting has started in some other states.

Mayor Richard Irvin of Aurora recently held a nice panel on Facebook with the four County Clerks in the four counties listed above, all parts of Aurora. Good information was available to voters.

Thursday, Sept. 24 is the first day vote-by-mail ballots can be mailed to registered voters who submitted applications to the County Clerks’ offices. Delay in the process of voting leads to clutter. Election day for all candidates will be November 3.

Clear and Concise, Week 38:

• If we plant negative thoughts, we reap negativity. We should be positive about the implications and residual effect of negativity.

• We build walls in politics if we see only heroes and enemies; we vs. they, or, us vs. them. It truly poisons the essence of democracy.

• With a Lenten theme borrowed here: I fast from judging others; I feast on beholding the Christ in them; I fast from emphasis on differences; I feast on the oneness of all life; I fast from anger; I feast on patience.
