Grandpa,
Reasons for rejection of Replacement Theology. (See thevoice.us/questions-new-testament-husbands-sister). Matthew 5:17-22 and 22:36-40. The law of love does not replace God’s mercy, it fulfills it. There are hundreds of OT scriptures that offer grace. Too many to cite here. Themes for the OT and NT are prophecy and fulfillment, not nullification. That is my two cents worth.

Grandpa says: Well said! I can add nothing to your answer to the original writer. Your two cents-worth comment put me in mind of the poor widow in Mark 12:42 and Luke 21:2; your words had more value than what others offered in explanation. I thank you.

Grandpa,
Thanks for printing the controversial letters about “Comments on Aurora Pride Parade” (See thevoice.us/ask-grandpa-variety-of-comments-on-aurora-pride-parade). The writer of (the first) letter had courage to bear his/her soul. It is easier to sanitize one’s comments in this age of political correctness. My first reaction was shock and dismay; someone had the nerve to be almost to the point of disrespect towards homosexuals and identity disordered individuals. I changed my negative reaction once I reread it. I had never wondered if sexual orientation could be due to environmental cues and a type of addiction. I remember not even 40 years ago popular thinking about the cause of alcoholism as a debate of whether it was strictly a moral deficit in willpower or more like a disease over which they have no control. Moral deficit and disease can be two causes. Addiction might be a third. Growth of knowledge is not possible unless one considers possibilities with an open mind. It is not easy to read about other lifestyles. A second writer said he/she wanted to sell his/her home and move out of town. I had similar thoughts last Spring when I tried to speak out about government bureaucracy. At the library, I heard a Freedom Rider from 1961 tell his story. The idea is that laws are slow to change, but with patience, they finally catch up to enlightened education. The tough part is getting local government to comply! The speaker mentioned that it was more outsiders who came to help them in Mississippi than locals, and waited it out in the jails. They had been arrested for attempting to register to vote! As a cynic, I was thinking I would not have risked being jailed for the right to vote.

Grandpa says: I had to edit quite a bit out of your letter to make it fit in the space. You make several good points on several topics. Sadly, Grandpa cannot print certain things about the movie you mentioned in your original letter without it sounding like either an endorsement or review, neither of which is acceptable in this format. Thank you for your understanding. I particularly like the way you tie various political controversies together in time-regressive order. Without mentioning the third letter in that column, you eloquently iterate what the third writer said; “I just want my family to accept me for who I am.” Acceptance is all anybody or group really wants.
