Dear editor;

I hate to see your fine publication being used to spread false propaganda, so a response is necessary. In his July 30 letter to the editor, published August 4, Leonard Wass claimed that the U.S. is third in the world in murders, but that if one were to remove five select cities, we would drop to 189th. These numbers are abjectly false. According to the sources below, the U.S. has the 61st highest murder rate out of 172 nations. Excluding the five cities (Chicago, Detroit, Washington, D.C., St. Louis, New Orleans), we drop two whole places to 63rd.

Please, Mr. Wass, let us know your source. I would hate to think that you just made it up.
