Dear editor;

State representative Mark Batinick (R-Plainfield) announced his March Diaper & Baby Wipe Drive for Women’s History Month. Throughout the month of March, individuals can drop off new and unused diapers and baby wipes at representative Batinick’s office to help mothers in need.

“During Women’s History Month, we recognize the contributions of women in our lives, but it’s also important to remember mothers who may be struggling financially,” said representative Batinick. “I’m glad to be hosting this drive to help mothers in Will County and bring attention to this important issue for families finding difficulty paying for diapers and wipes.”

Diaper and wipe donations will go to Living Alternatives Pregnancy Resource Center in Joliet. Larger diapers are most needed and all donations are appreciated. Donations can be made for delivery by purchasing diapers or wipes from online retailers and addressing them to representative Batinick’s office (24047 W. Lockport St., Plainfield, IL, 60544).

According to a Rockefeller Institute diaper need survey, 51.7% of families surveyed indicated that purchasing diapers creates financial difficulties at least some of the time and 50% of those families indicated they had to choose between diapers and other necessities. 66.7% of the respondents indicated they were middle income ($50,000-$74,999) and had struggled with diaper need at least some of the time.

Representative Batinick’s office is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is closed on State holidays.
