Dear editor;
Sierra Club Valley of the Fox group made two endorsements for the Illinois primary March 20. We endorse Daniel Biss for Illinois governor and Matt Brolley for Congress in the 14th District.
Daniel Biss is the bold leader Illinois needs at this crucial time, with Donald Trump taking America backward and Bruce Rauner putting polluters first. Biss knows that clean energy is the right choice for our future, and that clean air and water are basic rights of all Illinoisans. We know he will put people over polluters because that is exactly what he has done in the General Assembly. That’s why Sierra Club is mobilizing our members and supporters to elect a bold champion.
Daniel’s agenda for our environment is exactly what we need to make the progress we need now. Daniel stands for:
• Powering Illinois with 100% Clean Energy;
• Rebuilding the Illinois Department of Natural Resources to protect nature and help everyone enjoy it;
• Investing in clean water infrastructure to protect our rivers, lakes, and drinking water;
• Protecting the health of communities of color by cracking down on illegal pollution and fighting for environmental justice.
Matt Brolley is the strong leader we need to represent the 14th District. Matt is a civil engineer. He knows the ways that infrastructure and science can create a healthier environment, cleaner air, and cleaner water. As the mayor of Montgomery, he is leading the way to protect and conserve our environment and took steps to protect wildlife through the naturalization of Village water basins.
Matt will fight for more investments in clean energy and bring more jobs to the solar and wind energy sector. He recognizes the threat of climate change on our way of life and the positive impact cities can have against climate change. Along with 50 other mayors from around the world, He signed the Chicago Climate Charter to agree to follow the Paris Climate Accords.
Matt is the environmental leader we need.
