Reader’s Voice: Thoughts on Aurora’s Pride Parade

Dear editor;
The Aurora Pride Parade June 17 was a privately-funded parade, which even some government employees did not realize. I suspect when the bottom line of cost came in, taxpayers incurred a few bucks of the bill.

An Aurora city government committee, a panel of three, had two yeses for the parade license. Still, although the City Board, did not have a public vote supporting the parade, that I saw recorded, someone arranged for a float to be in the parade, led by Aurora mayor Richard Irvin. He sang, danced, and glad-handed the crowd.

I counted four churches marching, but someone said there were 11. I still want to see their catechisms. They certainly differ from mine. The question in my mind was: How many of them support the right to life? I suspect zero and pray I am wrong.

What caught my attention was the introduction that each of the government groups received, obviously crafted ahead of time: The Aurora Public Library, the Fox Valley Park District, the Police Association, the chief of the Aurora Police, and Waubonsee Community College. Had they been instructed prior to the parade, by the parade director, or maybe just the announcer?

“The LGBT was supported by the (insert employees name here) team”. Who gave them permission to say this? That was my question.

After many months of speaking to the boards and their chairman, or presidents, I found out that none of them had voted to support the parade. As had been the past practice, that task fell to the department director who did not admit to organizing this one. Just a bunch of employees did it and they just presumed it was legal to utilize their place of employment’s name. No one came forward to deny this action.

As for the city government of Aurora, I warned mayor Irvin publicly that he has opened a can of worms, all groups are now welcome to come and do likewise. Discrimination is every one’s tool. I hope the gun rights advocates march next year. It may or may not be a positive idea with the public, but a referendum may show the Pride Parade isn’t either.

The moral question: Is bragging or celebrating a homosexual lifestyle a welcome entertainment? It is not a crime, but immorality is still wrong. It works to implant impure images into the public’s minds, including little children, too. I call it pornography. Although I respect an individual’s bedroom rights, I don’t really want to discuss it, debate it, or be forced to support it.

Just as a segment of society upholds women’s right to abortion, the gay bandwagon is traveling down the same path. We all need to face reality: Life is hard! Some choices can be a vice, an inner sign of weakness, stubbornness, lack of courage, and we refuse to deal morally with the hand God gave us. Some for a lifetime, some early on in life, and others in the future. Mocking God, killing off a whole generation, inflicting your misery, handicaps or sorrow on society will not be token utopia for you or our Nation, but rather lower our standards to the lowest common denominator..

Can you read, do you hear? Church and government are in the swamp right now. And silence is not the answer, or solution.
