Recovery Centers of America (RCA) at St. Charles, Chicagoland’s newest premier Midwest treatment facility whose mission is to help one million patients achieve a life of recovery, is proud to join the Kane County Sheriff and Fox River & Countryside Fire/Rescue District in honor of International Overdose Awareness Day. Community members are invited to pick up individual bags with purple votive candles from the departments and encouraged to light them on International Overdose Awareness Day, Tuesday, Aug. 31.

The Kane County Sheriff’s Office, 37W755 Illinois Route 38, will allow for pick up of candles anytime during business hours beginning Thursday, Aug. 26 through Tuesday, Aug. 31.

Fox River & Countryside Fire/Rescue will offer pick up on Tuesday, August 31 only from 10 a.m. to noon at Fire Station 1, 40w361 Route 64, and from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Fire Station 2, 34w500 Carl Lee Road.

International Overdose Awareness Day is a global event dedicated to remembering individuals lost to overdose deaths and those whose lives have been irreversibly changed by overdose, as well as to raise awareness of overdose and reduce the stigma of a drug-related death.

“During the COVID-19 pandemic, the additional stress and isolation have posed serious risks to public health and recovery, diminishing the progress we have made in reducing overdose deaths,” said Karen Wolownik Albert, CEO of RCA at St. Charles. “We have lost more than 93,000 people in the United States to overdose in 2020. Increasing awareness, outreach, support and treatment opportunities will save lives. Help is available.”

RCA understands that addiction is an isolating disease, but with a strong support system that includes family and community resources, education and personalized treatment the journey of a successful recovery can be realized. Partners with community protection leaders, RCA continues its work within the community to learn, raise awareness and take a united stand against addiction.

Setting a new standard for addiction treatment in the Chicagoland area, RCA at St. Charles opened in September 2020. Covering 125 acres and located less than 50 miles outside downtown Chicago, patients are able to receive convenient treatment close to home with family involved in the treatment process, increasing the likelihood of maintaining recovery. Patients are able to obtain the support and structure from inpatient, and are supported in developing a recovery plan including community-based resources and supports.

An in-network provider for most insurance plans, RCA provides affordable, accessible and evidence-based treatment and clinical expertise to deliver quality care tailored to individual patients’ needs in the Chicagoland area. The challenge of recovery can be daunting, and RCA sets patients up for success by incorporating family members into its treatment model and offering social, educational and cultural events via a robust alumni network after treatment.
