Friday, it was announced that State senator Tom Cullerton is being indicted by federal authorities on 41 counts of embezzlement charges. The Villa Park Democratic Party member is accused of receiving a salary and benefits for more than three years from the Teamsters Union without doing any actual work.

Upon hearing the news, State representative Mark Batinick (R-Plainfield) released the following statement:

“Politicians who have put personal gain over the welfare of the citizens of Illinois are a big reason why we are in the financial mess we are in. There has been too much self-dealing for too long. Time after time I blame one group, the voters. This is not the first time something like this is happened, yet voters keep rewarding the same leadership election after election. Voters need to step up, pay attention, and vote differently. Or, they need to stop complaining about our high taxes and corrupt governance.”

Editors note: Cullerton, distant cousin to Senate president John Cullerton, Tuesday was replaced as Senate Labor Committee chairman. He was still Veterans Committee chairman.
