Aurora social workers explored “Grace in Action” Sunday at Wesley United Methodist Church, Aurora.
Guest speakers were Lu Anna Handley, founder and director of Shine Within, Inc., and Shannon Cameron, chief of staff, City of Aurora. Thew Elliott, Wesley director of liturgy and music, moderated the conversation that concluded the summer sermon series “Exercising Grace: Practices That Form Us.”
Congregants learned from the speakers how to see those living in the shadows of political systems with different lenses, not judgmental eyes. They said that while Christians may not be able to change the world, they can change themselves, their families, their blocks, neighborhoods and local areas.
Wesley Pastor Rev. Tammy Scott said, “Every day, these professionals accompany people through seasons of grief, uncertainty, healing, transition, and hope. Their work reminds us that one of the greatest gifts we can offer another person is our presence—and our willingness to truly listen.”
