Where do we find the space in The Voice each week? The selection process is important. Some information in a wide range of news events is better than less, or, none. Items with substance include:

  • Will County Sheriff’s detective, Shaun Moran, was presented with the Illinois Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Meritorious Service Award recently. Off duty, nonetheless, he stopped the attempted robberies of a neighbor and a neighborly business.
  • State representative Stephanie Kifowit (Oswego) is involved in the dedication of Herschel Luckinbill Road at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13 at the intersection of U.S. Route 30 and Douglas Road (in the Jewel parking lot), Montgomery, rain or shine. The late U.S. Navy veteran’s memorial path on U.S. 30 will be in Kendall County from Douglas Road to River Road. The tribute is well deserved for the leader of a large contingent of U.S. military veterans until his untimely death July 28, 2021.”I’ll never meet another one like him,” said American Legion Post 84 commander, Mike Eckburg.”
  • The Yorkville Congregational United Church of Christ will be host to its Fall rummage and bake sale Friday, Oct. 20 and Saturday, Oct. 21. Donations for the sale will be accepted from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15, and from 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 16 and Oct. 17.
  • Kane County Cougars, Class A minor league professional baseball club, will hold a garage sale for thousands of items Friday and Saturday, Oct. 13-14. Sale hours are 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. the day and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. the second day. Parking is free.
  • Illinois Secretary of State, Alexi Giannoulias, filed this week for administrative rules to increase the age at which drivers must pass a driving test when they renew their licenses, from 75 to 79.
  • Al Benson, reporter and photographer, filed a report that State police departments, and police departments from Aurora, North Aurora, and Kane County Sheriffs, participated in the third annual “Faith and Blue” at First Presbyterian Church in Aurora. The event included Zelda, the North Aurora Police Department comfort dog.
  • Girls Scout cookie deadline is October 23.
