Poem: Sign Of The Times

While you may not accept this, still I say it’s true;
The things you like to use identify with you.
You can’t call it intelligence—just sensory,
And if you stop to think about it, you’ll agree.
So shoes, or slacks, or blouse, or shirt, or coat, or hat,
You feel good ‘cause they feel good on you, simple as that.
All this comes down to your own shopping bags, as well;
You know that you will use them as a show and tell.
Well, this year, here and now, their feelings have been hurt;
Although they know that’s something they could not avert.
But still they all looked forward to this yearly time,
When all of them felt truly they were in their prime.
So it would be so nice of you, and, Oh, so wise—
To have you in your own way just apologize.
It won’t be easy, for the first time, to define
How you, this year, had filled your Christmas list on line!
