Looking for something fun (and free!) to do over spring break? Head to the Aurora Public Library District for a show that’s guaranteed to blow up your expectations (in the best way possible). Family entertainer Smarty Pants is bringing The Magical World of Balloons to APLD Wednesday, April 1 with performances at both the Santori Library and West Branch. This family-friendly show promises laughter, wonder, and balloon creations you’ll have to see to believe!
If the name sounds familiar, it’s because Smarty Pants has wowed our audiences before. After a hugely popular visit in 2024 with his “Big Halloween Balloon Show,” he’s back by popular demand and ready to twist up something brand new. “One of my favorite things is seeing how he keeps his programs fresh by offering new story lines,” said senior children’s manager, Monica. “And seeing how much the kids enjoy him!” His performances combine skill and creativity into something truly unforgettable. “Smarty Pants offers fascinating entertainment that includes comedy, engaging storytelling, a dash of history, and the biggest, most incredible balloons we’ve ever seen!” added librarian, Mindy. While the balloons and magic are unforgettable, the experience of seeing it live is what truly sets this program apart.
The fun doesn’t have to end when the balloons stop bouncing. If the show sparks your curiosity, APLD has plenty of ways to keep the magic alive even longer. This performance draws inspiration from one of the library’s most fascinating sections: 793.8, home to books on magic tricks. Library visitors can explore the shelves to learn a few tricks of their own or discover how balloon artistry works. “Programs like this can spark curiosity in the arts,” added Monica. “That’s one of the great things about libraries. There is always something exciting to explore and learn more about.” Whether you’re picking up a book, admiring the balloon displays left behind, or just talking about your favorite part of the show, the experience goes far beyond the 45-minute run time.
So, if you’re looking to add a little POP to your spring break plans, make room for The Magical World of Balloons. It’s creative, it’s captivating, and it’s right at your library. Smarty Pants will be at APLD Wednesday, April 1 for a 10 a.m. show at Santori Library and a 1 p.m. show at West Branch. These are ticketed events, meaning free tickets will be available starting 30 minutes before the program. Don’t let this opportunity float away!
