Submarines Aurora Navy League focus

You do not need to be a member of the Navy League, or have a reservation, to attend the in-person meeting. The general public is welcome.

The Aurora Navy League Council 247 will hold its Tuesday, Jan. 18 dinner meeting at the private room of the Riverview Diner, IL-25 and Mill Street, Montgomery. It is a very large private room and can be entered from the north door, or through the restaurant. There is plenty of parking. The Navy League will continue to hold its monthly meetings here.

A reception will begin at 5 p.m. followed by a meeting at 5:30 p.m. with dinner afterward. The cost is $25 all-inclusive if an entree is ordered, or $20 for the dinner salad featured that evening. Free entry without food. The meeting will conclude by 8 p.m..

The after-dinner speaker will be Captain Leonard Wass, USN (Ret) whose topic will be: “The US Submarine Force: Strike From the Depths”. This superb slide presentation includes many videos showing submarine activities while submerged, releasing and recovering Navy Seals. The presentation was originally was developed by RDML Rick Seif, USN, Commander, Undersea Warfighting Development Center in August to the 786 Club. It not only shows the distribution of the Submarine Force world wide but gets into recent technological developments, such as drones of all varieties. Viewers will better understand the Silent Service and better appreciate the dangers these submarine crews face in helping to keep out nation free. There is no question that the US Submarine Force is the tip of the spear in our Nation’s defenses.
