The City of Aurora government Shine the Light Award at the Aurora City Council Tuesday

Aurora Police chief Kristen Ziman is in awe of a City of Aurora government Shine the Light Award she receives from Aurora mayor Richard Irvin at the Aurora City Council Tuesday. The award is a new tradition for city government of Aurora employees who receive national and international recognition. Chief Ziman was elected vice president-at-large of the International Association of Chief of Police which is the world’s largest and most influential professional association for police leaders. With more than 30,000 members in 160 countries, the IACP is a recognized leader in global policing.
Mayor Irvin was named the 2019 National Small Business Advocate by the United States Conference of Mayors. Each year, the USCM selects a recipient from among its 1,400 member-mayors who has publicly and consistently supported small businesses and serves as a model for other communities.
Chief information officer Michael Pegues was named the national 2019 Smart Cities Summit Leader of the Year for implementing new and clearly industry-respected Smart City standards and initiatives in Aurora. Other nominees included individuals from New York, Atlanta, and Madison.
