The 2018 Aurora GreenFest will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at Prisco Community Center and McCullough Park at 150 W. Illinois Avenue in Aurora. The Aurora GreenFest is a celebration of sustainability, including ways to protect the environment and make our lives better. The event is free for the whole family.

To start the Aurora GreenFest, the Fox Metro Reclamation District will present a free tour and solar showcase at their location at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 20. Box lunches will be provided for attendees. Please RSVP by E-mail to info@foxmetro.org.

We are proud to announce three new fun events this year:

• Upcycling Old Windows into Art: Window Works will have on-site demonstrations of painting on old windows to bring awareness to upcycling as well as Aurora area artists. The decorated windows will be sold at the Fest after judging at 3:30 p.m.. Artists should contact the Aurora GreenFest early to reserve space and an opportunity to paint. Demonstrations will begin at 10 a.m. and will continue to 3 p.m.. Call Sue Klein at 630-464-3863 for more information.

• Illinois Solar Tour: The Aurora GreenFest once again will be host to the Illinois Solar Energy Association’s Solar House. The dollhouse-sized house is decked out with photovoltaic solar panels that produce real electricity! Tour participants will gain valuable insight on the costs, processes, and economic and environmental benefits of going solar.

• Goat Yoga: One of the newest ways to connect with nature is with goat yoga, yes, doing yoga with goats. OsweGoat Yoga will be at the GreenFest from noon to 2 p.m. with sessions every 15 minutes. Please come early to sign up and to pet the goats!

We will have solar companies and non-profits, as well as another new addition, a Do-It-Yourself Green Car Show with owners who will talk about why they love their environmentally-friendly cars. We will have kids-teaching-kids about ways to save the planet. We will have our community trade show with more than 100 exhibits with things to learn and things to buy.
