Kane County District 4 Board member Mavis Bates hosted the meeting at Aurora Public Library–West Branch. Other guest speakers were John Mall, Kane County code enforcement officer; and Aurora Ward 5 alderman Carl Franco.

In an advance statement, Bates called the event “an open forum to discuss topics related to the unincorporated areas of Kane County, including updates regarding the vacant property at 5S991 Deerpath Road in Aurora, formerly known as LeBeau’s Health Club.

“We understand that the old LeBeau’s has been a significant frustration for the neighbors,” Bates said, “and we want to keep you informed about our progress in resolving this ongoing issue.”

Audience members called the site an eyesore and a danger to public health. Mall explained that the club is on a five-acre, unincorporated site surrounded by Aurora residences. He said he has been in talks with the property about plans for the site.

After presentations and audience comments and questions, Bates said she will pursue talks with Aurora officials and a damage assessment by the property owner’s architect. An update is planned for a second town hall in about three months.

According to Bates, questions or comments may be directed to her and Mall via email at mbates@kanecoboard.org, or, at MallJohn@kanecountyil.gov.
