Oh, sorry. I wasn’t paying attention to the time. I was busy planning what I would do with the $5,000 coming from liar-in-chief Donald Trump after the GOP sweeps the elections in November. I may add it to the $2,000 he’s sending as a rebate from the illegal tariffs he imposed on goods from other countries and the $500 refund from high medical costs. I should be able to get a couple tanks of gas with those combined funds.
Personally, I was happier with the land of free love rather than the land of free money. At least with free love, you actually got something. No free anything will be coming from Trump except more free empty promises. He just throws these things at the wall of the universe to see how many stick to people dumb enough believe him and vote for his hand-picked stooges running for office. There will be a good number of those voters because you can never lose when you bet on the gullibility of Americans.
Hard to believe it’s been a quarter of a century since the tragedy of September 11, 2001. To people who weren’t born then, it’s just a date in history books, unless they had a relative or a family friend who died that day or in the days following. I suppose it was the same way people felt in 1966, a quarter century after Pearl Harbor. Because my mother had a cousin who was stationed there I was more aware of the “Day of Infamy” than some of my friends. Then-current military actions in Vietnam took precedence over past military tragedies.
There are a couple of similarities between December 7, 1941 and September 11, 2001. In both cases America was caught sleeping at the wheel. In both cases, warnings from those in the know were ignored and thousands died in a short period of time on a single day. It brings to mind the adage about how those who don’t learn from the past are doomed to repeat it. Doesn’t that apply to the Trump presidential elections also?
Seriously, what recently triggered my gag reflex is stolen valor. That typically occurs when a real or more often phony person of the military persuasion takes credit for their part in some heroic action in which they never took part or was actually performed by someone else. We saw a blatant example of it on the 25th anniversary of the real 9/11 performed by our own Greatest-President-Who-Ever-Lived, when he managed to desecrate the memory of real heroes by lying about how he took 100 to 200 of his constructions workers to Ground Zero to help dig through the rubble to search for survivors. However, PolitiFact found no evidence that Trump brought hundreds of workers to the site, and other fact-checkers have also found the evidence lacking. Trump was probably in his office hovel gloating over the fact he had the tallest building in New York.
What a disgrace to the brave people who really took part in the search and rescue mission, many of who paid the ultimate price for their heroic actions. Dozens more are still paying it. More than 700 have died due to complications from the toxic elements they were exposed to that day and for days afterward. And here you have the president once again trying to hijack the spotlight and point it on himself. If that doesn’t make you sick, I don’t know what will (maybe some broccoli with salmonella will, but that’s another story). He went on a Twitter tirade that night, but never once mentioned 9/11.Where’s the 25th Amendment when you need it?
And now for a last chuckle about the Lincoln Monument Reflecting Pool. Trump was frantically pushing to get a former Olympian convicted of vandalism and spend 10 years in prison so he wouldn’t look bad, then lost what passes for his mind when the case was dropped just because there was no supporting evidence. Well, Trump’s own handpicked contractor finally admitted that it was the shoddy work of his crew and not some leftwing vandal that caused the coating to fail. It appears Jeanine Pirro still has a few Trump-free brain cells after all.
