Food choices have a big impact on health and how we feel. The University of Illinois Extension will have one of three programs to explore simple ways to improve nutrition and energy based on meal and snack selections. See below.
“The Mediterranean Diet is an evidence-based dietary pattern focused on the food of Spain, Greece and Southern Italy, where chronic disease incidence is low,” said Laura Barr, nutrition and wellness educator. “In addition to providing proper nutrition, this diet may improve lipid panels and blood pressure for a healthier heart.”
Those in attendance can learn more about this simple way of eating at one of three upcoming educational sessions in DuPage, Kane, and Kendall Counties. Participants will learn about basics of the Mediterranean diet; better understand food choices, nutrition and benefits; as well as get recipe ideas and taste test. The sessions are presented by University of Illinois Extension in:
• Kendall County, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16 at 7775B Illinois Route 47, Yorkville.
• DuPage County, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18 at 1100 E. Warrenville Road, Naperville.
• Kane County, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23 at 535 S. Randall Road, St. Charles.
Registration is required and available online at go.illinois.edu/extensiondkk. Cost is $10 per person. Space may be limited. Registration closes one week prior to each class. For questions, contact Laura Barr at llbarr@illinois.edu or 630-584-6166.
