Have you ever wondered what it would be like to live in a school? Well, residents of Aurora will soon have that opportunity to find out.

Todd Elementary School closed five years ago and will reopen tomorrow as new affordable apartments for Aurora residents.

The first phase of the new Fox Valley Apartments will be unveiled Wednesday, March 13 during a Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony.

Fox Valley Apartments is a 47-unit affordable housing initiative that encompasses two former school sites on Aurora’s west side: Lincoln Elementary School, which closed in 2009, and Todd Elementary School, which closed in 2019.

The former Todd Elementary School site features one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments, a laundry room, a community room, a computer lab, and private off-street parking.  Original features of the school building have been incorporated into the residential design, including lockers in the hallway, built-in bookshelves inside the units, and murals in the common areas.

The site will also include a VNA Health Care clinic.

The second-phase grand opening of Lincoln School will take place this spring.
