Water Street Studios’ new exhibitions will open at 6 p.m. Friday, April 10 and feature artwork by Andrew Reach, Diane Sanborn, Nicholas Sistler, and Darius Hurley.

The Dempsey Family Gallery on the first floor will feature the work of Andrew Reach and Diane Sanborn in their exhibition entitled, “The Shape of Things”.

• Andrew Reach is an abstract artist working in the world of digital media. “I was an architect first for more than 20 years, when in 2005, a progressive spine disease left me disabled and unable to continue practicing,” said Reach in his artist statement. “I bring to my art, my architectural baggage. It informs me; always thinking about structure, composition, color and rhythm.”

• Diane Sanborn is a contemporary American abstract artist. She is the founder and director of BRIO Fine Arts. Sanborn is a highly-skilled colorist working with symbols, shapes, and lines to keep audiences amused and on their toes.

• Nicholas Sistler is featured in the “H20” gallery on the first floor with his exhibit “Effervescent”. Sistler was graduated from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1980 and continues to impress audiences all over the nation with his miniature work that plays games with perception.

• Darius Hurley’s “Portraits and Punchers” will be on the 2nd Floor of Water Street Studios in the Chicago Capital Gallery. Portraits and Punchers will feature new painted works, a short retrospective of earlier paintings and some surprises. The show promises to be an exhilarating evening of colorful and exciting bare-knuckle art. Darius Hurley is a British artist and performer living in Batavia. His paintings have been shown in galleries in Chicago and New York.

Opening reception will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, April 10. Visitors can meet the exhibiting artists and our Resident Artist community during this monthly event. In addition, a cash bar will be available featuring beer from Solemn Oath Brewery and wine selections from The Wine Exchange in St. Charles.

This event is free and open to all ages. We encourage all visitors to make a $5 donation at the door to support arts programming at Water Street Studios. A special thank you to our event sponsors: Chicago Capital LLC, Batavia Enterprises Inc., First National Bank, and K.Hollis Jewelers.

Both gallery exhibits will continue to be on display until at 5 p.m. Saturday, May 2. Artwork on display in galleries and studios are available for purchase at the front desk unless marked otherwise.
