For the second time in school history Waubonsee Community College will play in the NJCAA Division II Women’s Volleyball National Championship Tournament. Behind top-notch performances by Sydney Fedderly, Sydni Coultrip, and Rebecca Robinson, the Chiefs captured the recent Region IV District B Tournament championship by defeating Black Hawk College, 3-1, in the semifinals and Sauk Valley Community College, 3-1, in the championship match. Waubonsee, 24-15, advances to the 16-team, double elimination National Tournament in Charleston, W. V.. The Chiefs’ first round opponent will be Fort Scott, Kan. at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21. In Waubonsee’s other appearance at the National Tournament in 2014 when the Lady Chiefs finished 13th nationally and with a 35-16 overall record.

Waubonsee head coach Steve Kish has guided the Chiefs’ program to 24 or more victories in seven consecutive seasons, despite annually playing one of the toughest schedules in the country. The Chiefs have played 15 nationally-ranked teams in their 39 matches this season. Fedderly is 16th nationally among all NJCAA Division II players in kills with 448; eighth in service aces with 74; and in 10th in points with 556.0. Robinson is seventh in aces with 79 and Alyssa Gittins is ninth in solo blocks with 87.
