Snow?

What snow?

We have Spring in full measure, or, so it has been made to feel as though while we are suffering through 50-degree weather and warmer in early February.

Some commentaries have led us to think it is related to global warming. In reality, we are a few degrees warmer than we were 75 years ago and technically it is a modest global warming, however, there are those who want us to think we will burn up, literally. The way it is now, we will adjust, make modest changes in our way of living and move on with life.

News notes continue to shape our world:

•Dr. Robert Renteria, author of books on bullying, gangs, violence, drugs, suicides, and school dropouts, reminds us we must do better to help our children in schools and in the world. The three-step solution is simple: Recognize the problem, find a solution; take action. It may sound simple, however, identifying those steps, willingness to take action, and following through is forever the guiding force. Dr. Renteria has written the Barrio books and curriculum which helps the middle schools with children, especially in the Hispanic backgrounds to adjust to the fast-changing world. Improvement in reading is the first step.

•With the Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 11 in view, many avenues respond. One is the Plano American Legion Post #195 will be host to a Super Bowl Sunday, Chili Cook-off at 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11. A $5. donation is requested to enter. Sign-up is available for the Super Bowl party.

•Reverend Tammy Scott, lead pastor at Wesley United Methodist Church, completed part two of a three-part contemplative series spiritual renewal series. She is involved with 17 clergy companions and three leaders who were selected for the three-part series. Part three will be in July.

•Politics this year will be on ongoing process with culmination the National elections Tuesday, Nov. 5. Can we make it through the year with many negative comments prevailing in the early process? Negativity often is the process in elections. A more positive approach often can be greeted with tepid responses and negativity often can stir the blood and stimulate responses. Likely it should be viewed as unfortunate. The election of a president of the United States should be a more joyful experience than it tends to become. The glass should be half-full and not half-empty.

Elections are a necessary process. Embrace!
