West Aurora High School screens students for heart issues

The West Aurora High School community united for Young Hearts for Life, a vital initiative to screen students for conditions linked to Sudden Cardiac Death Tuesday, Feb. 13.

Organized by West Aurora’s Meghan Hill, the annual event was part of the largest youth heart screening initiative in the U.S..

A total of 2,228 West students underwent free screenings that identified 16 for further examination.

Angie Gonzales, a school spokeswoman, said the success of the day was attributed to 273 volunteers and support from various organizations. They included Blackhawk Sports Boosters, EKG for EGK, Kathryn Bender Memorial Foundation, West Aurora Physical Education Department, North Aurora Mother’s Club and the A+ Foundation for the West Aurora Schools.
