Yorkville Public Library youth events for February

The Yorkville Public Library Youth Service Department will have many events in February. All events will take place at the Library, 902 Game Farm Road, unless otherwise noted. For more information, or to register, call 630-553-4354 or visit www.yorkville.lib.il.us.

• Fridays, February 7, 14, 21, 28, 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., Drop In Story Time.

Please stop by to listen to wonderful stories read by our awesome volunteers from the Friends of the Library.

• Monday, Feb. 10, 5:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., Window Art.

Celebrate the season and help liven up the Library’s windows with art. Space is limited. Please register online. When registering please register each child separately using their name.

• Monday, Feb. 10, 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., LEGO Duplo, ages two and older with a parent. The LEGO club is for the younger set with a parent. Blocks will be provided. Please register online.

• Tuesday, Feb. 11 and Wednesday, Feb. 26, 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., Tots and Toddlers.

Parents can bring their little ones to listen to stories, rhymes, and a complete craft. Registration is available online.

• Wednesday, Feb. 12 and 19, 4:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., Book Club, grades first and second.

In the two session book club, we focus on easy chapter books. Please join us for a very special book. A light snack is provided. Please register for both programs on the YPL website.

• Thursday, Feb. 13, 10:30 a.m. or 1 p.m., Morning/Afternoon Read, ages three through five.

There will be a story and a fun craft. Morning and Afternoon Read have the same content. Please register online.

• Thursday, Feb. 13, 7 p.m., A Portrayal of Harriet Tubman by Pamela Welcome.

The educational program will feature Pamela Welcome in her portrayal of Harriet Tubman. Harriet Tubman who rose above dire circumstances, the oppression of slavery, and the passion that embraced her once she made it to freedom. Registration is recommended.

• Saturday, Feb. 15, 10:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m., LEGO Club, ages five and older.

Everyone can make unique creations to display in the children’s department. LEGO will be provided. Please register online.

• Saturday, Feb. 15, 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., Books for Bingo

The whole family can have fun an play Bingo. Each winner will receive a book. Please register online.

• Thursday, Feb. 20, 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., or, Friday, Feb. 21, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Literacy Centers, ages three to six.

Stop by to experience a parent guided opportunity for hands on literacy instruction. Literacy Centers are designed to give children ample opportunity to practice the very important skills of listening, reading, writing, and speaking.

• Saturday, Feb. 22, appointments start at 10:30 a.m., Read with Paws

Please contact the library at 630-553-4354 ext. 108 for a 15 minute appointment time.

Children can come to the library, select a book and read to a furry friend. All therapy dogs and handlers have been certified by an accredited organization. This program was designed originally because children feel less pressure to read to a dog than an adult. It was meant to be a way to help struggling readers or even just encourage reading. It is open to all levels of readers and non-readers. Space is limited.

• Monday, Feb. 24, March 2, 9, and 16, 4:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., Book Club, third through fifth grades.

The four-session book club will start a new book on February 24. There will be a weekly book discussion among peers. A light snack will be provided. Please register online for all four sessions.

• Thursday, Feb. 27, 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., Homeschool Hangout.

Homeschool families can join us in the monthly program. This will be great opportunity for networking and learning what the library has to offer. We will make Shrinky Dinks. Please register online, space is limited.
