Chicago Steel Hockey Read With Rusty program will return. The six-week reading power play is open to children ages 14 and under and is designed to promote a lifelong love of reading, literacy, and hockey. Students who complete the reading goal receive a complimentary ticket to the Chicago Steel Hockey game. Pick up a reading log beginning October 1.
• Sixth Annual UNCARVED Pumpkin Decorating Contest.
Bring in your family’s uncarved, decorated pumpkin starting Wednesday, Oct. 17. Voting will begin Monday, Oct. 21 and ends Thursday, Oct. 31. Winning family will receive a prize. Be creative!
• Tuesday, Oct. 1 and 15, 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Panera Story Time.
The Yorkville Panera will provide registered children with milk and cookies. All ages are welcome to attend, registration available online.
• Wednesday, Oct. 2, 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., Baby Lapsit, ages birth to 23 months.
Parents sing, clap, and bounce to nursery rhymes and songs with babies. The last 10 minutes of the program will be play time. Registration available online.
• Friday, Oct. 4, 18, 28 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., Drop In Story Time.
Every Friday morning, we will offer story time. Please stop by to listen to wonderful stories read by our awesome volunteers!
• Monday, Oct. 7, 14, 21, and 28, 4:15 a.m. to 4:45 a.m., Book Club, third through fifth grade.
The four-session book club will start a new book on October 7. There will be a weekly book discussion among peers. A light snack will be provided. Please register online for all four sessions.
• Tuesday, Oct. 8 and 22, 2:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m., T.A.G. (Teen Advisory Group).
Teens in grades eighth through 12th can get together to share ideas about the teen area in the library. They can help create and plan programs. This group has opportunities to earn volunteer hours. Great chance to meet new friends and have some fun and laughs.

• Monday, Oct. 14, 11 a.m. to noon, Game Changers (Coding), ages six to nine; 1:15 p.m. to 2:45 p.m., Game Changers (Coding) ages 10 years and older.
The 2019 4-H National Youth Science Day challenge is called, Game Changers. 4-H is a partner with Google and West Virginia University Extension Service to create activities that explore computer science in a way that is fun for kids.
Game Changers teaches kids how to use computer science (CS) to create games, solve problems, and engage with topics they’re passionate about. Game Changers uses physical activity and puzzles to teach kids important CS concepts and problem-solving skills, creating real-world connections between computer science and civic engagement, healthy living, and agriculture.

Stop by to experience a parent-guided opportunity for hands on literacy instruction. Literacy Centers are designed to give children ample opportunity to practice the very important skills of listening, reading, writing, and speaking.

The Chicago LEGO Users Group will be back to share their displays with Yorkville. Kids can stop by the library to view these incredible LEGO creations and build their own for display.

The LEGO club is for the younger set with a parent. We will provide the LEGO. Please register online.
• Saturday, Oct. 26, appointments start at 10:30 a.m., Read with Paws
Please contact the library at 630-553-4354 ext. 108 for a 15 minutes appointment time. Children can come to the library, select a book and read to a furry friend. All therapy dogs and handlers have been certified by an accredited organization. This program was designed originally because children feel less pressure to read to a dog than an adult. It was meant to be a way to help struggling readers or even just encourage reading. It is open to all levels of readers and non-readers. Space is limited.

Parents can bring their little ones in their costumes to listen to stories, play Halloween games, and trick or treat through the library. Registration available online.
