Aurora Police Department representatives have secured felony charges through the Kane County State’s Attorney’s office on a 60-year-old Aurora man in connection with two burglaries at separate downtown restaurants Wednesday, Nov. 14.

Jerry R. Miller Jr., of the 200 block of E. Galena Boulevard, is being held on two counts of burglary for incidents at La Quinta de los Reyes in the first block of E. New York Street and at Aurora Pancake House in the 300 block of N. Lake Street.

Miller was arrested after being caught allegedly burglarizing LaQuinta around 11:22 p.m. by the owners who received alerts on their cell phones indicating the business’s alarms were activated. They arrived at the restaurant just as Miller was leaving the building. One of the owners chased Miller a short distance and when APD officers drove up, he pointed out the suspect who was taken into custody without incident. A patrol officer on-scene noticed Miller resembled a man he had seen on security video burglarizing the Pancake House around 2:15 a.m. that morning, which assisted officers and detectives in garnering enough evidence for the State’s Attorney to authorize the felony charges in both incidents.

In both burglaries, forced entry was made and undisclosed amounts of cash were taken.

Detectives have not ruled out additional charges against Miller in other recent burglaries. He is in the Kane County Jail where his bail was set at $75,000.

The charges against Miller are not proof of guilt. He is entitled to a fair trial at which it is the burden of the State to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
