The Aurora Navy League Council 247 will hold its monthly dinner meeting Tuesday, Feb. 18. The meeting will be at Grandma’s Table Restaurant, 1700 Douglas Road, Montgomery, just north of U.S. Route 30.
The after-dinner speaker will be Kane County Sheriff, Ronald Hain, whose topic will be “The Challenges of Law Enforcement in Kane County Illinois.”
A reception will begin at 5:15 p.m. followed by dinner at 5:45 p.m.. The dinner will include a choice of three entrees, fish, chicken, or beef, soup or salad, dinner rolls, vegetables, dessert, and nonalcoholic drink. The cost is $21, all-inclusive. Alcoholic drinks can be purchased separately. A fourth, lower cost entree, a dinner salad, may be purchased for $13. It includes soup, dinner rolls, dessert, and nonalcoholic drink.
You do not need to be a member of the Navy League, or have a reservation, to attend the meeting. The general public is welcome. The Navy League is a civilian organization started by president Teddy Roosevelt to provide civilian support the Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Merchant Marine, and Sea Cadets.
Ron Hain grew up in Elburn, and was graduated from St. Charles High School in 1994. When Ron was four years old, he told his mother that he was going to be a Kane County sheriff’s deputy. He never lost sight of that goal during childhood and is now the Kane County sheriff. He has served in law enforcement for 22 years and has been given credit with hundreds of major criminal arrests.
He has worked in varying capacities; to include narcotics officer, canine handler, SWAT Team leader, and developed, implemented, and supervised the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Interdiction Team. He is a nationally recognized expert in interstate criminal and terrorist interdiction. He is a national lead instructor for Desert Snow Criminal Interdiction Training, the director of marketing for Relentless, LLC, and is the author of “In Roads: A Working Solution to America’s War On Drugs” (under the pseudonym Charles Haines).
Hain has received five meritorious service awards and two officer of the year awards for several successful major criminal investigations. He received the nationally presented “Relentless Award” in 2013 for his work in criminal interdiction. In his career, Ron Hain has seized more than 4,000 pounds of black-market marijuana, more than 100 kilograms of cocaine and heroin, and more than $3,000,000 in illicit currency, along with hundreds of illegally possessed firearms associated with those crimes.
Based on his extensive experience in keeping our community safe, Ron has focused his campaign for Sheriff on identifying the serious concerns that Kane County continues to face. As well as developing concrete, concise, and innovative solutions to correct those issues. In 2012, Ron began work on a jobs program to connect citizens with prior felonies to local employers who were willing to hire them. He shared the initiative with Kane County Drug Court and it has flourished into an operating network, and within the last 18 months, has provided connections to more than 70 community members who desperately needed employment opportunity. Ron plans to make this program part of the Kane County Jail in effort to reduce re-offending.
Ron Hain serves on several community-based boards focused on developing new, progressive initiatives, to include:
