Iwo Jima major Bill White, 104, receives 100,00 cards

Major Bill White served in World War II, survived the Battle of Iwo Jima island in 1945, and has lived a long life, is 104 years old.

During the Battle of Iwo Jima he received a Purple Heart when he led his Marines toward the front lines under heavy fire from Japanese soldiers and a grenade blew up about six inches from him.

White resides in California and spends his days staying active with his favorite hobby: Scrapbooking. He has kept a lifetime of memories on the bookshelves and for Valentine’s Day, he would like add to his collection with cards from individuals near and far.

The nursing home he is in has set aside a separate from for the valentine cards. The anticipation is that more than 100,000 items will arrive.
