Aurora Police Officer, Justin Cebulski, helped seven residents safely evacuate a burning home September 21, including a man who remained asleep in a bedroom as the fire spread.

At approximately 6:27 a.m., Aurora Police responded to a reported structure fire in the 1100 block of North Randall Road. Officer Cebulski arrived before Aurora Fire Department personnel and began contacting residents who were exiting the home to determine whether additional occupants remained inside.

Despite a language barrier, Officer Cebulski established that several residents were still in the residence. He called into the home to alert the remaining occupants, prompting additional residents to exit. He continued speaking with each person as they evacuated, working to account for everyone who had been inside.

Through those continued efforts, Officer Cebulski learned that one resident remained in a bedroom. With flames visible from the roof and fire burning inside the residence, he entered the home, forced open an interior bedroom door, and located a sleeping man. Officer Cebulski then assisted the resident out of the home to safety.

Aurora Fire Department personnel arrived within minutes and brought the fire under control, extinguishing flames that had spread into concealed spaces within the attic and roof.

All seven residents safely evacuated the home, and no injuries were reported among them or Officer Cebulski. The cause of the fire is still under investigation by AFD.
