Did you know that the Eola Road Branch of the Aurora Public Library is gathering toys for a toy swap?
Everyone is invited to donate gently-used toys and then browse the offerings to take some home from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, April 28.
The Toy Swap is for all ages. The last day to bring in toys is Friday, April 27. It’s similar to an indoor garage sale that will feature toys only!
Mark calendars for Storytime Prom at Eola Road Branch, 11 a.m. to noon Friday, May 25. Just like traditional prom for older kids, this prom will feature refreshments, photo ops, and plenty of dancing. Plus, this prom has stories. It will be fun to see the formal attire some attendees wear, although it’s not required. There’s no registration for this third annual event that truly is one of the highlights of the year at the Eola Road Branch.
April is a big month at West Branch. Staff members will celebrate the Eola Branch’s 20th anniversary with giveaways and treats all month. Clifford the Big Red Dog will make an appearance at the West Branch at 4 p.m. Thursday, April 12, and classical guitarist Peter Fletcher will present a concert at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 22.
The A-Town Poetics group meets monthly at the West Branch, but Tuesday, April 24, it will be at the Santori Library of Aurora to read its work in an open-mic format. All poets are welcome to read and listen at the Waxing Poetic program. The group will meet back at the West Branch at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 22. A-Town Poetics is made up of writers who share their work and offer support through critiques and writing assignments.
If you have young children, don’t miss the Week of the Young Child Fair from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 14 at the Santori Library.
Families, caregivers, teachers, and community members are invited to this free event to include entertainment, children’s activities, and resources. The fair is presented by SPARK Aurora and no registration is necessary.
Make sure you are at the First Fridays event at the Santori Library Friday, May 4. It will run from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. with an opening ceremony at 5:45 p.m.. The theme is “Happy Birthday Marie Wilkinson,” and birthday cake is on the menu. Her actual birth date is May 6, 1909. She would have been 109 this year. She passed away August 12, 2010. Attendees can view many items from the Wilkinson Family Collection donated to the Library by Sheila Scott-Wilkinson, Marie’s daughter. The bullwhip that was handed down to Marie by her father-in-law will be on display for the first time.
