Kiwanis Club of Aurora member Debbie Smith, left, poses with her niece, Marci Viland, who made a presentation about her journey with multiple sclerosis (MS) to members of the Kiwanis Club of Aurora, Tuesday, at the Prisco Center in Aurora. Viland is the author of two books, a children’s book, The Brave Duck Patti Saves the Day, and A Meaningful Life With MS, her personal story of her purpose and meaning of living with MS. She was diagnosed with MS in 2007 and seeks to inspire others with her attitude and determination to never give up. MS is a nervous system disease that affects the brain and spinal cord from damage to the myelin sheath, the material that surrounds and protects nerve cells. Symptoms include vision loss, pain, fatigue, and impaired coordination. Right is Kiwanis president John Ross.  Jason Crane/The Voice
