The North Aurora community emergency response team (CERT) receives applause and appreciation at the Village Board meeting Monday after Village president Dale Berman read a proclamation declaring April Volunteer Appreciation Month in North Aurora. Chief David Fisher said in 2018 2,067 hours were volunteered, almost double from the 1,131 in 2017. He estimates the Village saved more than $51,000 in 2018 because the volunteers assist paid staff members during disasters and other emergencies, planned events such as North Aurora Days and parades. Volunteers may assist with directing traffic, perimeter/access control, triage/first aid, light search and rescue, shelter set up, and operation. Jason Crane/The Voice
