Diabetes is a serious chronic disease that poses a significant health problem, in the United States. About 30.3 million people in our country have diabetes, with approximately one third not even knowing they are diabetic. Each year, 1.5 million new cases of diabetes are diagnosed, and it is estimated that 84 million Americans have prediabetes, of which 3.6 million live in Illinois. Diabetes is the seventh leading cause of death nationally and in Illinois.
Uncontrolled blood sugar (glucose) can cause vision problems, heart problems, nerve damage, dental problems, kidney damage and more. Eat healthy, stay active and have a yearly blood test, to stay diabetes free!
