Another must-see performance at the Paramount Theatre, Wizard of Oz, is wowing audiences just as top performances have since 1931 in Aurora.

It is not just for children. It is truly for everyone. This production is a burst of happiness. We all could use a little dash of hope and belief. We experience our own changes and our own journeys.

Dorothy and her companions show it all to us through eyes of innocence and wonder. The production is filled with fabulous visuals and stage designs.

New lines produce laughter and even more fun. It is fresh, bright, and funny, all at once.

The Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and the Lion travel with Dorothy to give her companionship and courage. They are all richly played, with wonderful voices.

We can remember those friendships that have had the power to get us through tough times and we are in awe again.

As the play unfolds, we all begin to feel the world of Oz as a little scary, but filled with hope. We become open to it, and to that brings possibilities.

Costumes and puppets and a fabulous Paramount staff members and a crew of children create even more magic.

Dorothy, played by Elizabeth Stenholt, is a perfect version of the right actress to fit into those ruby red slippers.

The Wizard of Oz is playing at the Paramount in Aurora through January 6, 2019. Tickets are reasonably-priced at $38 to $69. Call 630-896-6666 or go to www.paramountaurora.com.

One more thing:

There was a little girl, Ruby sitting right in front of me at the press performance Saturday. I asked her, “What was your favorite part or person?”

She answered, “The wicked witch and Toby, the dog. I liked when the bad witch tried to kill the good witch.”

So much for my deep philosophy.
