The Three Fires Council, Boy Scouts of America has awarded more than 300 young men the rank of Eagle Scout so far this year and the list keeps growing. Last month, 27 young men earned the highest achievement attainable in Scouts BSA, a program of the Boy Scouts of America and joined the ranks of Eagle Scout which consists of more than 4,000 west suburban area alumni.

“It’s an exciting time to see our youth grow through the program and reach goals they made when they first joined at five or six years old,” said Clint Scharff, scout executive/CEO. “As an Eagle Scout and father of an Eagle Scout, I’ve seen first-hand the character development and leadership that the programs of Boy Scouts of America offers to today’s youth.”

Youth seeking to attain their Eagle Scout, must be active in the program, hold multiple leadership roles for a minimum of two years, and earn 21 merit badges and complete a Service Leadership project, which entails conceptualizing, planning, fundraising, leading, and executing the project and writing an after-action impact report. Service hours spent on the project range from 100 hours to 400 hours. Once completed, the Scout must pass a Board of Review, an interview by community and Scout leaders to officially obtain the rank.

These past two months, projects varied from building shelving and tables for the Easter Seals, to restoring a set of bleachers for use in equestrian shows at the DuPage Forest Preserve in Warrenville.
