Earth Day (April 22) may be over, but you still can do your part! Join 3:11 Project and many community partners for the first Community Day of Service in Yorkville from from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 11.
The day will start at Hoover Forest Preserve with informational and interactive stations from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., including educational materials, games, crafts with recycled materials, make-and-take mini-insect hotels with University of Illinois Extension Master Gardeners, and the “Monarchs on the Move” activity with 4-H Teen Science Ambassadors. The Kendall County Forest Preserve will lead informational walks and prairie plantings.
Other informational tables will include environmentally-friendly cleaning materials, and various recycling or reuse collection stations including: Unused medicine disposal by Fox Metro, old eyeglasses by the Lions Club, Mascara Wands for Wildlife, cell phones for Mutual Ground, and Crayola ColorCycle used marker collection.
From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., community members can volunteer for one of several outdoor clean-up projects in Yorkville, including work at Riverfront Park, Yorkville Junior Womens Club Park, Kennedy Road Trail, and clean-up of empty lots and roadsides. Prior to going to each project, all volunteers will need to check in at Hoover, sign a waiver and get supplies and instructions.
