Kendall County native first to teach

Did you know Kendall County was home to the first female professor in the country? 1n 1878, Lisbon-native Mary Rippon joined the newly founded University of Colorado as the first woman to teach at a state university.

Rippon is just one of the fascinating local women you can learn about by visiting the Little White School Museum’s newest exhibit “She is an Excellent Lady.”

The exhibit will be open for museum visitors through April 25. The museum is located at 72 Polk Street in Oswego. Regular hours are Thursdays and Fridays from 1 to 5:30 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.; and Mondays, 4 to 9 p.m. The Museum is closed to visitors on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Admission to the special exhibit and the museum gallery is free.
