David Dibo, director of Economic Development for the city of Aurora government answers questions Tuesday at the Kiwanis Club of Aurora meeting at the Prisco Center. He gave a brief update about development plans for the City and answered questions.

Dibo said the developer for structures known as the Terminal and Keystone Buildings in downtown Aurora were both closing on construction loans this week. The Terminal Building is at the northwest corner of Broadway and Galena Boulevard and is set to have 20 apartments built and a restaurant on the first floor. The Keystone Building, built in 1923, is one of two Stolp Island works by architect George Grant Elmslie. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

Dibo explained a recent study conducted reported a demand of 200 apartments in downtown Aurora each year. The Aurora Arts Center is set to open soon and will house a school for performing arts and upscale restaurant operated by Amy Morton, family member of the well-known Morton’s The Steakhouse chain. Other restaurants in the future include Latin fusion food served from the first floor of the Leland Tower and Asian fusion sushi and Robatayaki style cuisine in the structure known as the Vargas Building which recently housed Culture Stock.
