Marmion Academy is pleased to announce that seniors Benjamin Riner, son of Daniel and Teresa Riner of Geneva; Charles Rogers, son of Eric and Deanne Rogers of Montgomery; and Alexander Yakisan, son of Hasan and Elise Yakisan of North Aurora; have all been named 2020 National Merit Scholars by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). Merit Scholar designees were chosen from a talent pool of more than 15,000 outstanding Finalists in the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Riner and Yakisan were each awarded a National Merit $2,500 Scholarship, underwritten by National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) with its own funds. Rogers was awarded the National Merit Loyola University Chicago Scholarship, sponsored by Loyola University Chicago.

National Merit Scholarship winners are the Finalists in each state judged to have the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills, and potential for success in rigorous college studies. The number of winners named in each state is proportional to the state’s percentage of the Nation’s graduating high school seniors.

These Scholars were selected by a committee of college admissions officers and high school counselors, who appraised a substantial amount of information submitted by both the finalists and their high schools: the academic record, including difficulty level of subjects studied and grades earned; scores from two standardized tests; contributions and leadership in school and community activities; an essay written by the finalist; and a recommendation written by a high school official.

Marmion Academy, a Catholic-Benedictine college preparatory school for young men, is a community dedicated to spiritual formation, academic excellence and leadership development. Marmion Academy is located at 1000 Butterfield Road in Aurora. For more information visit www.marmion.org.
