Oswego Senior Center Caregiver education, cooking for seniors

The Oswego Senior Center, 156 E. Washington Street, Oswego, will be host to many events for seniors. All events will take place at the Oswego Senior Center unless otherwise noted.
• Caregiver Education Series: How to effectively communicate your wishes to your children or caregivers, Tuesday, Aug. 21, 11 a.m., in multipurpose room.
A big worry many seniors have is that their wishes will not be met by their children or caregiver. Adding to this concern is the awkwardness of having a conversation about disability, incapacity, and death. Attendees can learn how to approach tender topics and the tools to use to develop a plan. Presented by Keith Bielema and sponsored by Heritage Woods of Yorkville. A light lunch will be provided. Please RSVP to 630-554-5602.
• Easy and Healthy Cooking Class, Tuesday, Aug. 21, noon to 2 p.m..
Easy recipes that can put together quickly with delicious outcomes will be taught at the Oswego Senior Center. Please RSVP and pay $5 in advance to reserve a spot because space is limited! Call 630-554-5602.
• Medicare Discussions: Medicare Advantage Plans, Wednesday, Aug. 22, 11 a.m., OSC Game Room.
Medicare Advantage plans have both advantages as the name suggests and drawbacks. At the meeting everyone can learn the questions to ask to determine if Medicare Advantage is a good option.
Those who need more help can make an appointment with a SHIP counselor from the Oswego Senior Center. To RSVP or make an individual appointment, call 630-554-5602.
• International Cooking Class, Friday, Aug. 24, 10 a.m. to noon.
Food from Puerto Rico will be featured with Arroz con pollo and Caribbean beef stew. Special guest chef, Norman Hernandez, will share his heritage with the class. Please RSVP and pay $5 in advance to reserve your spot as space is limited! Call 630-554-5602.
• History through Biographies, Wednesdays 10:15 a.m. to 11:30 a.m..
Mike Adolph, a retired history teacher, moderates lively discussion as participants explore history by presenting biographies they’ve chosen from a list of more than 200 Americans, such as Teddy Roosevelt to Gary Kildall and Calamity Jane to Jim Thorpe, and Phyllis Wheatley, or members can select their own choice. Join in anytime in this ongoing class.
