I have been pondering for a while on how to comment on a variety of current topics, often seen in other commentaries in The Voice.

This week I make those comments.

I have decided to look at the comments of the gentleman who takes a lot of space in the paper as if he turned his work into me as a teacher. His work would not receive a passing grade. I would praise his sentence structure and paragraphing but fault the content. His arguments are based on false premises, and his sources range from unsubstantiated to false. On this basis there is no room for debate or counter arguments.

MAGA (Make American Great Again) world is a myth. The United States never has been great in any decade, yet we have done good things. MAGA puts George Washington as one of their idols, but the statue should include a memorial to the atrocities committed to Native Americans and African slaves to achieve his goals. Not enough books can be banned to erase the actual history. We need to know it so as not to repeat atrocities and be better human beings.

Let us be honest. Tucker Carlson should come with a warning label. Donald Trump has torn families and friends apart with his lies and made-up philosophies. He manipulated good, decent, people to believe his lies and make a foolish attempt to take over the government Jan. 6, 2021. He raises funds and puts the majority in his pocket.

I parked myself in the Evangelical world for a long while and went through a lot of deprogramming after leaving. I knew while in it that something was not on the up and up. They believe they have all the answers and should lead the Country. Their premise for living, the Judeo-Christian values presented, have credence but have minimal practice in the Church. They have a god (lower case letter g intentional) they fight for, but in the White Evangelical world it has little resemblance any more to the God of Christianity. Ministries such as Kenneth Copeland and Flashpoint which tour the Country should best amped with buyer beware.

The city where I raised my children is going through rebuilding and rebranding. I would rather spend my time with an honest C student or C-list person than people calling themselves A students and A-list people all based on pretense without content. I find this pretense throughout the City. Rebuilding the City with faulty concrete and then dressing it up as success is unsustainable. A LED sign on a bridge won’t help.

So many people have moved toward false grandiosity and myths today. There is always a nugget of truth, but that nugget does not justify the false premises. It is often difficult to keep hope that this situation is something we are going through, and we will come out better on the other side.
